Grand Prize winners of the 9th Annual Great American Song Contest are
Marla Lewis and Les Julian, two talented and imaginative songwriters
who specialize in Children's music.
Their delightfully
original "Mighty
Jackie (The Strikeout Queen)" became an instant hit with the judges,
who praised the song as "colorfully entertaining, well-crafted
and charmingly accessible" to audiences of all ages.
Marla
teaches Music and English as a Second Language in the New York City
school system. "I find that 'hands-on music' is a powerful motivator
for children, and makes language learning a breeze," she says.
"For
the past 20 years I've performed my music in schools, libraries, and
parks in all five boroughs of New York City, as well as in Long Island
and Westchester County."
Les Julian
has traveled a similar road in his songwriting career. He likes to write
songs that "both entertain and educate" and often performs
at school assemblies, festivals, small theaters, concerts and Special
Events.
